In the Western Cape, there are a number of different wine regions dedicated to different varietals. The closest regions to Cape Town city is Constantia and Durbanville (famous for Sauvignon Blanc & sweet wine), and Stellenbosh (Cabernet Sauvignon). The best time to go wine tasting in the Cape Winelands in South Africa are the months from November - March. The weather is warm (though can be windy) and all the vineyards are laiden with grapes, making for some beautiful scenery.

I would recommend hiring a tour bus company to chauffer you around. Alternatively, if one of your party is not drinking, then a hire car is great for getting around. There are also a number of taxi services available though be careful and rather ask your accommodation to assist you picking the best option. I do not recommend public transport if you are a tourist.

Some wineries offer walk-ins but most need bookings. It is always best to book before your visit to secure your place.

Most wineries are closed on Mondays so I would recommend Tuesday - Sunday between the times of 11am and 3pm. Most wineries close their kitchens at 3pm so get out early!
