Nederburg Estate in Paarl has announced that its immersive sensory wine experience through soundscapes is back! Enjoy a blindfolded tasting followed by a curated three-course dinner. Situated 60 kilometres from Cape Town CBD, the experience costs R795 per person and focuses on South African terroir through multi-sensory storytelling.
Nederburg is one of Paarl’s oldest and largest wine estates in the Cape Winelands, best known for its grand Manor House and deep roots in South African wine history. While it often attracts large tour groups and classic tasting room visits, the estate has been offering exceptional experiential events.
The launch of the Uncharted series shifts the focus from traditional cellar tours to an interactive, small-group evening.

This is an intimate, multi-sensory exploration of wine, flavour and place—yours to explore.
What to Expect
The concept removes sight from the tasting equation to heighten smell, touch, and sound. You start with a handwashing ritual, Cap Classique, and canapés before putting on a blindfold and headphones. A sound engineer designed specific audio tracks to match three South African wine regions, supported by physical objects—like sea salt and smooth stones—to match the coastal or inland terroir of the pour.
The Food & Wine: The blindfold portion acts as a prequel to a sit-down, three-course dinner paired directly with the landscapes you just explored through audio and touch. The cooking draws heavily on local ingredients tied to those regions.
Why I love it: It forces you to slow down and actually think about what you are tasting without getting biased by a bottle label or wine rating. It is interactive, well-researched, and breaks away from standard wine-tasting formats.
Things to Consider: If you dislike dark spaces, wearing headphones in public, or relying heavily on audio prompts, the blindfolded portion might feel restrictive rather than relaxing, but at any point, you are most welcome to remove your blindfold or headphones without disturbing anyone or feeling embarrassed.
