Diemersdal Bordeaux Style Wine From Durbanville
I love a good Bordeaux-style wine (because I have never had an actual one) but this wine from Durbanville is a great one to try if you can’t get your hands on an actual french wine.
This is the @diemersdalwines Private Collection which has all five Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The wine matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new.
Tasting notes:
Deep dark chocolate and enticing cedar aromas appear first on the nose, followed by wafting notes of blackberry jam, cherry and cassis. The firm, well-structured palate features robust yet sweet tannins and a broad range of flavours ranging from black cherry and red fruits carried along by the richness of its oak and vanilla notes. It is long and smooth now, with an intriguing character that will continue to develop with years to come.
In the cellar:
The grapes were hand-harvested at different stages of ripeness, with the blocks harvested and vinified separately. Crushed and destemmed reductively. Skin contact of 3-12 hours, pressed and settled for 6 -12 hours. Racked and inoculated with selected yeasts. Three weeks’ alcoholic fermentation, temperature controlled at 14-16ºC, post fermentation lees contact to enhance concentration and mouth feel.
