Blaauwklippen Named Best Heritage Wine Estate in the World!
Congratulations to Blaauklippen Winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa for being named as the world's Best Heritage Wine Estate.
Blaauwklippen is South Africa’s oldest wine estate and oldest registered company and they have just been recognised with top honours at the prestigious 2025 Global Brand Awards, held at the glamorous Grand Hyatt in Dubai on 13 June 2025.
Out of more than 18,000 companies considered worldwide, Blaauwklippen made it into an elite group of global winners – proudly waving the South African flag alongside major international heavyweights from France, the USA and Japan!
Why Blaauwklippen?
The “Best Heritage Wine Estate” title is awarded only for those with a deep-rooted legacy, authentic origins, and the ability to translate centuries of history into a wow-worthy visitor experience.
Blaauwklippen ticks every single box:
A legacy dating back to 1682
Continuous winemaking innovation
A Wine tourism offering that is second to none
Blaauwklippen is one of my favourite wineries to visit (especially on weekends) as they have something for everyone. I particularly enjoy the Sunday markets and live entertainment.
A Note from Blaauwklippen
Roelof van den Berg, CEO and proud co-owner of Blaauwklippen, says it best:
“What makes this award outstanding is that Blaauwklippen is not only the oldest wine estate in South Africa, but it’s the oldest registered company in the country. Dating back to as early as 1682, Blaauwklippen has been a defining player in the Cape Winelands and Stellenbosch region, helping to establish what has become one of the country’s most prized winemaking landscapes. To even be considered for a prize as esteemed as the Global Brand Awards is an incredible triumph, both for Blaauwklippen and for South Africa.”
Plus, after years under international ownership, Blaauwklippen is now 100% back in South African hands, owned by local business legends Roelof van den Berg and Olebogeng Manhe. This is no small feat in an industry where international investment often dominates the premium wine space.
“Blaauwklippen belongs to the hearts of the South African people,” says van den Berg. And we couldn’t agree more.
From Wine to Wellness – What’s New at the Estate
If you haven’t visited Blaauwklippen recently, now’s the time. Over the past few years, they’ve been investing in some exciting new experiences – combining heritage charm with modern adventure and luxury.
Here’s what you can expect:
A vineyard walk with gourmet food and chocolate pairings (yes please!)
Craft gins, sparkling grape juice, and a legendary brandy
A purpose-built cycling pump track among the vines
A fully equipped farm gym with Pilates, Hiro, and weight training classes
Of course, their signature wine range remains the star of the show – handcrafted and enjoyed across SA and abroad. And with full control now back in-house (after wrapping up a joint venture with Van Loveren), Blaauwklippen is on a mission to honour its roots while innovating for the future. P.s. I love their Zinfandel!
Be sure to add Blaauwklippen to your Cape Town bucket list, especially if you have kids. They are about a 40-minute drive outside of Cape Town in the Stellenbosch Wine Region.
